Abstract:

This article is a reflection on the processes of care in traditional Africa in general and care through ethnographic objects in particular. It highlights the contribution of ethnographic objects in the therapeutic sessions of the Lobi and Birifor communities in the southwest part of Burkina Faso. It is a response to an observation where traditional medicine is neglected in favor of modern medicine which does not consider our anthropological and social realities. The main objective of this reflection is to encourage the use of endogenous knowledge in therapeutic practices in order to fill the void in modern medicine which does not consider the spiritual dimension of care. Through a participatory and qualitative methodology, we determined illnesses or situations that could lead to illnesses and collected the treatment objects by photography. At the end of the analysis, it results that these objects mediate by contagion the forces of the protective deities against those who inhabit the sick body favoring the healing process. Keywords: semio-therapy; object; own body; enveloped body; sick body.
