Abstract:
In Le Testament, Ivorian poet Mathurin Goli Bi Irié highlights the decay of modern African society. He elevates the poetic word to a sacred status, transforming it into a didactic tool for future generations. This study deciphers signs associated with the practices and beliefs of the African social world through the lens of the semiotics of culture. This analytical method views culture as a collection of texts interacting within a synchronous space or semiosphere. Within this environment, defined by symbolic boundaries, diverse cultural traditions clash and hybridize. The aim is to understand how the transmission of ancestral heritage is revitalized in the face of contemporary crises, by examining the meaning bearing structures within the poems. The three-part semiotic analysis begins with the theoretical underpinnings of the semiotics of culture, then proceeds to analyze how meaning is generated within the semiosphere moving from the periphrey to the center. Keywords: culture; semiotics; semiosphere; sign; boundary.
