Les recherches antérieures ont largement exploré les dimensions socio-culturelles du Sudan, abordant notamment les aspects vestimentaires, alimentaires et éducatifs. Toutefois, l’articulation entre ces domaines et les migrations transsahariennes reste insuffisamment documentée. Cette étude vise à pallier cette lacune en analysant l’impact des migrations sur la transformation socio-culturelle au Sudan occidental du XIᵉ au XVIᵉ siècle. L’étude s’appuie sur les chroniques d’auteurs arabes, européens et soudanais. Ces documents ont révélé que les Soudanais ont adapté les usages vestimentaires des migrants. Ces derniers ont également influencé les habitudes alimentaires et éducatives des populations soudanaises. Cette période de transfert a fondé une identité soudanaise hybride durable.

Abstract:

Previous research has largely explored the socio-cultural dimensions of the Sudan, including clothing, food and education. However, the link between these domains and trans-Saharan migrations remains insufficiently documented. This study aims to fill this gap by analyzing the impact of migration on socio-cultural transformation in Western Sudan from the eleventh to the sixteenth centuries. The study is based on the chronicles of Arab, European and Sudanese authors. These documents revealed that the Sudanese have adapted the migrants’ clothing habits. The latter have also influenced the eating and educational habits of the Sudanese population. This transfer period has established a sustainable hybrid Sudanese identity.
